Back in February, we kicked things off with the hottest enduro bikes available. The bikes in this group test will make bike enthusiasts’ hearts beat faster and their palms sweaty. They’re the stuff biker-dreams are made of, but not every one of them is suitable for every type of rider. We put them head-to-head on the trails of the Trans-Provence to find out their individual strengths and weaknesses.

Best value: Trek Slash 9.8

The biggest innovation on the Trek Slash is hidden inconspicuously inside the shock. Trek calls it Thru Shaft, and it’s the latest addition to Trek’s suspension technology. Although the technology is not entirely new, it has never been properly implemented on a mountain bike.
